For it doesn’t stick around
After all it doesn’t like you
Rejection came to me
Back in the days of elementary
When I was picked last
Then it died in Jr. High
And came back one day in High School
When I had to ask April out
She said no (better to be friends)
Rejection left once more
But April stayed close
A very good friend, indeed
Then in the days of College
When running track was all that mattered
Until a Rose began to grow in my eyes
Yet thorns did not pierce them
Then in the midst of the summer
I asked Rose out
Rejection came once more
More vicious and deadly than ever
That sweet woman just about killed me
Yet, after three months time
Rejection left once more
And Rose and I started our friendship anew
Yet distance did separate, yet friendship remained
A year passed from when Rejection last showed his face
When he came close to coming back for me
That was when I met Yari
And I had to ask her out
Only my words exited my mouth as one thing
And entered her ears as another
And before I come reiterate
Her former boyfriend came back
And I was just plain out of the race
But strangely enough and awesome enough
We became good friends
Rejection came and goes
Because it didn’t like me
