I was watching television a while ago. Scientists are again planning to go to Mars. You see, they have this theory that Mars, aside from Earth, is the only planet that can sustain life. This exploration is important since they want to test if Mars can really accommodate human beings, if Earth runs short of space. An extension, if it qualifies as that.
Switching into another channel, I saw a local actress being interviewed in a Cosmetic laboratory. She will undergo a bust-lift operation. The reporter noted that it is the 5th time the actress is undergoes an operation.
Another channel shows a man in his late 50's shouting and jumping for joy for winning one million in the jackpot round of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. He was in tears when he said, "I've been waiting for this luck to come."
Then in another channel, I saw the situation in the war-torn Iraq. Buildings being bombed. People scampering like rats. Babies crying...
Different channels. Different lives. Different situations. Different emotions. Different hungers (if there is such a word as that).
If man's greatest hunger were information, then You would have sent an educator. If it is money, then You would have sent us an economist. If it were pleasure, then You would have sent an entertainer. If it were technology, then You would have sent an inventor, or a scientist for that matter. If it were beauty, then You would have sent us a cosmetic expert. If it were security from all threats of massive destruction, then maybe You would have sent us a superhero.
But you sent us a savior. Salvation, then, is man's greatest need. Salvation, then, is the thing we should be hungry of. But with the things I've seen on television, this doesn’t seem to be.
Man, with the blessings that You have given, gone wild. Unsatisfied. Hungry for worldly things. I, too, am guilty of that.
Tsk..tsk..tsk..
Maybe that’s the reason why I’m talking to You. Guide me and guard me. Help me set my priorities the godly way. Fame, money, pleasure, and knowledge seem to promise much, BUT I won't need them if my salvation is at stake. For what profits a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul.
I won't make this long and talk much. I hope I've not been a pain on Your neck. But if I've been, I'm sorry. Help me change, please...
Your daughter,
Mel
