“You bet I’m poor. I don’t even have cable and I’m like the last person in this state without a cell phone. I mean, while everyone is in their car talking on the phone, do you know what I get to do? Drive. It’s embarrassing. I’m like the safest driver ever!”
“Drugs messed me up. I lost everything. Now, I live in this shelter and eat at the soup kitchen. Am I poor? That’s something I don’t even want to think about. I’m trying to get myself together. I’m just grateful I can eat.”
“I’m not poor, but I’m not exactly wealthy either. My husband and I work just to get by. We’re in serious credit card debt and we still have to pay for our mortgage, our cars, our kids’ activities. Last month we had to get another credit card to go on vacation. There are a lot of people out there doing better than us, that’s for sure. So, maybe I am poor, considering.”
“I made a ridiculous amount of money in the dot-com boom. It was one endless party. But when the bust came, I busted along with it. I’ve never been so poor. Not only financially, but spiritually. Spiritually wrecked. Then I found God. You know, Jesus. Now I’m an ‘everyday shmoe’ working day after day, but I’m rich. You know what I mean?”
