As this week is officially “Sanctity of Human Life” week, it only seems fitting that we should pause for a moment and reflect upon what it means to be human. It has been said that “too err is human”, and that in fact is a true statement, we are all prone to “err” or to “sin” courtesy of the fall. The first two human beings that ever walked the face of the earth managed to succumb to temptation, lied to by a snake, the old serpent Satan.
What we are today is not what we were originally intended to be; the world we live in now is not the world that was originally created by God. Creation underwent a metamorphic change almost instantaneously, as sin and death entered the world destroying God’s perfect creation, and breaking his heart as well. All of creation has been affected by the curse of sin and death; nothing has escaped the death grip imposed on us by Lucifer the liar, who was created along with the rest of the angels shortly after the sixth day of creation. The design that God implemented in the Garden of Eden was plunged into darkness; the relationship that Adam and Eve once enjoyed with the Almighty was severed by their own disobedience.
Our great creator God, designed us in his very image. I believe that as God is in three parts (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), so we are created in three distinct parts (Mind, Body, and Spirit), actually it is not too difficult to understand. God gave man a free will to decide his own actions, and along with that choice came the negative results of wrong behavior, and disobedience to God.
There is a lie that is very prevalent in society today that say’s that people are generally good on the inside, this could not be farther from the truth because when we look in Scripture we can see that God say’s that just the opposite. Romans 3:23 states “For ALL have sinned and come short of the Glory of God”, and Romans 3:10 states “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one“. These two passages of Scripture alone clearly show us that not one of us is even close to perfection. We are all sinners in the eyes of God, and we all deserve the same punishment, eternal separation from God in Hell.
We are all human beings who are created by God, in the image of God, but that original image was distorted along with the rest of creation. Our only hope as sinful lost human beings is to turn to Christ, who is the only perfect man that has and will ever walk the face of this earth.
Human life is still a marvelous gift from God, and it should be reverenced as so. Let us never stop speaking the truth; let us continue to fight for the sanctity of human life. Let us continue to boldly proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom of God without excuse, or apology. Let us remain humble before God as we praise him for providing a rescue plan for fallen man. Someday soon we who are in Christ Jesus will have a whole new design, new spiritual bodies that will never deteriorate, and die. I pray that day is soon.
