The Bible begins with the words, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. A beginning is a start of something new. The creation of the Universe certainly qualifies as a “BIG” something new. However, as I look carefully, everything around me has a beginning. There is a beginning to this article, a beginning to a baby’s life, and a beginning to a new job. In fact, almost everything I can think of has a beginning.
But what I may not always remember is that every day is a new beginning to my relationship with God and how I serve him. First, I thank God for everything that I have received in my life so far. Second, I ask God to forgive anything that I may have done to offend him. When I ask God to forgive my sins, I know He forgets them completely, as if they never occurred. What better way to start a new day than with a clean slate, a new beginning to my relationship with God unburdened by the faults of my past?
As I sit here watching the sun rise highlighting the bottoms of the clouds with a golden hue, I am also conscious of the fact that without beginnings, nothing would ever happen. I was not put on this earth to let life simple happen to me. Rather I am here to make a difference in my life and the lives of those around me. The only way to make a difference is to get up and do something. Maybe I have wasted all of the previous days in my life by not working my hardest to make a difference. That doesn’t matter. Today is a new day, a new beginning. I think about the gifts God has given me and how I can use them to further His glory. Then I ask God for His help to get me up out of this chair, to get out and to do something. Today is my day to embrace a new beginning, to create my own genesis.
Is it yours too?
