TITLE: Hope; found only in the Lord! By shirley shields 04/04/04 |

In thee O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.
Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me, for thou art my rock and my fortress.
Deliver me, O my God, out of the hands of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
For thou art my hope, O lord God; thou art my trust from my youth.
By thee have I been upheld from birth, thou art he that took me out of my mother’s bowels; my praise shall be continually of thee.
I am a wonder to many; but thou art my strong refuge.
Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honor (glory) all the day.
Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.
(Please read the rest of this Psalms for more encouragement)
The header in my Bible states that Psalms 71 is a prayer for help in old age, while I have read these scriptures before; I have never noticed that little note before. It still amazes me at times, how the Lord gives me just the scriptures I need to overcome obstacles confronting me, and just at the right moment. This fact alone gives me hope daily.
The last several weeks have been extremely demanding for many reasons; basically I live in a hospital atmosphere taking care of my elderly mother. It is a 24/7 on call schedule, where some weeks are slow and some are really hectic and that’s what I have confronted the last two weeks.
I love writing and sharing the word with others, and getting feedback to improve my writing skills, plus I feel that the Lord desires me to do this. However, the adversary has definitely tried everything he can throw my way, to get me off this path lately. Last week when I finally got my article written to submit late last Sunday night, when I submitted it something went wrong and it didn’t take the article like it usually does, but somehow placed it on the week before, or that’s what printed for me, endurance on Peace header?? It was certainly a trial of endurance last week for me. Maybe it was just a Computer glitz on the other end, anyway I was extremely tired and went on off to bed and called it a day.
So when I discovered it wasn’t in the challenge articles Monday morning, I just put it on my other articles site, since my whole purpose in doing any of this, is to share the word of God. I also wasn’t sure that I hadn’t passed the deadline time for submitting articles until I re-read the instructions the next day. Old age showing I guess in memory loss.
However, this week hasn’t been much better for me, and I was starting to get discouraged and think that maybe the Lord didn’t want me to do this challenge anymore, or maybe I needed to wait until things settled down here more?
Funny how the adversary tries to get us to stop what we know the Lord desires us to be busy doing. Then this morning, I read this Psalm and it renewed my hope, that the Lord wasn’t finished with me in this area yet. It was such an encouragement to me on hope, and since that is this week’s topic, I figured maybe He was trying to tell me I needed to share it with others who are going through difficult times as well.
We have been promised He will never give us more than we can handle and that I personally can vouch for. He is my hope, my rock I depend on every day.
