Creeping or barreling to our pass-away date
Limping or running with love or with hate
Exquisitely aware or naïve and sadly unwise
We’ll arrive at death’s door without our disguise

All sin and corruption will follow us there
And more secrets we hid of which none were aware
The good and obedience we thought that we had
Will be subject to question, and yes, parts will be bad

We have not the power to dilute what has been
Or dress it with pride to present as a win
No matter how good we think we became
Every human attempt will still end in blame

To toil through our lives could well end in surprise
When God judges each one through His own perfect eyes
Which leaves us no payment to argue our case
Or a ticket for entry to His Heavenly Place

Stunned and alone and condemned to damnation
Too late to repent and ask for salvation
We’ll be charged with each sin no matter how small
As God keeps His WORD and ignores our shocked stall

That’s when many will rue the day they made a decision
To ignore all attempts at a lifestyle revision
And failed to accept God’s offer to delete the full cost
Through Jesus, who offset our debts on the Cross

It all seems so simple to accept with no fear
So why do the masses pretend and just play it by ear
Thinking a God of creation would never serve a cruel choice
Which is something He does when we tune out His voice

Those who choose the abyss of denial by refusing His plan
Hope deep down they are safe from rebuke by His hand
But the ONLY ticket to life everlasting in Heaven above
Is provided for free if we would trust in His Word and His Love

Ignoring the most perfect gift until time has run out
Will lead to real horror and tortured thrashing about
Thus refusing to consider the terms of our own final bell
Means even the best may be stunned when they wind up in Hell

All the serious pain caused by ignoring tomorrow
Can’t change the gnashing of teeth and weeping in sorrow
When we run through life blindly accepting every evil and lie
We shouldn’t be amazed at what happens when finally we die

Consequences await each one who has sinned
And a judgment to face when we arrive at our end
So it seems prudent to consider exactly why we were born
Which is to run the course and leave earth with no past to mourn

And it’s all wrapped snugly in Jesus who offers to pay
With assurance to stand in our place on our very last day
Whether sudden or expected, the time comes too soon
And we’re left all alone, facing the Judge with no wiggle room

The price is too high, no help is in sight, no banks for a loan
No attorneys to help or defend, no buttons to push on a phone
It all comes down to a sinner doomed with no chance for a plea
Locked out of Heaven with no path to its key

How sad, how obscene, how utterly wrong is this sin
When a person created by God will never be born…again
Because of ignorance or refusal, even knowing His Word
Or hoping things simply work out from something they’ve heard

But here’s the last page of chapter and verse we need to embrace
Our only claim to eternal safety and God’s holy grace
Rests firmly in the finished, loving sacrifice His Son freely made
The invitation only asks for our R.S.V.P. to the price that He paid!

Repenting of sin and accepting Jesus makes us brand new
A promise to all of mankind, but only believed by a few
Brings comfort and peace from what He has done
No panic or fear when death whisks us away…Thanks to God’s Son.
