We see things in the light of the Word of God and are inspired to walk in that light and to keep His commandments as he instructed us in John 13:34(NKJV), "A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another."
How do we keep His commandment? After Jesus' resurrection and ascension to heaven, He returned on the day of Pentecost to indwell in believers as the Holy Spirit. He poured His Spirit upon them and indwelled in them, so that He could live through them to fulfill His new commandment. And He is still pouring out His Spirit to all who believe, as He said in Acts 2:39(NKJV), “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
Jesus knows our humanity, and He knows we can only obey His Word to love one another as He has loved us by His Spirit living in us. He was the perfect example of love. The Bible tells us in Romans 5:8 (NKJV), “but God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.”
Nothing is greater than love. In 1 Corinthians 13:4-10 (NKJV), “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.”
Christ is the perfect one, and now that He has come into our lives, we are called to love one another as He loves us. Yes, to love as Christ loves is costly. But He has redeemed us unto Himself so we can love as He loves.
I have had a recent situation with one of my church family where I had to pray earnestly for God to demonstrate His love through me to that individual.
And from time to time there are issues among the brethren, and it takes God’s love in our hearts to overcome them.
