God demonstrates His love by sending His only begotten Son to redeem lost humanity. Jesus was the expression of God's love. He was the love of God. And He came to fulfill the law and the Prophets, and He fulfilled hundreds of prophecies concerning Himself, but His ultimate fulfillment was as a Saviour, Redeemer, and the atonement for our sins and sickness through His suffering, death, burial, and resurrection.
The Bible tells us to love our neighbour as ourselves to fulfill the law of God. The love that fulfills the law is agape, or divine love. Here is an example of God's love in action:
I read about a gospel minister who held evangelistic meetings in Mexico many years ago. And one night in his meetings, a wrinkle-faced man who was very elderly, perhaps in his eighties, came to him for prayer. The elderly man's clothes were ragged. The minister said that he loved the man and felt sorry for him. The man had no shoes on, his pants were very ragged, and he was stone-blind.
The minister put his feet next to the man's feet, to see if his shoes could fit him, but they were too small. A great surge of love and sympathy took hold of the minister's heart, and at that moment, he prayed for him. He said, "Jesus, please have mercy on this old blind daddy. Will you help him, Father?"
Then the man shouted, "Glory Adios!" and his full sight was restored.
This miracle demonstrates the love of God in action, inspiring awe and wonder at His divine power and compassion.
It is a love beyond human understanding, capable of transforming lives, as seen in the story of the blind man and in countless testimonies of believers touched by divine love.
Jesus instructs us in Matthew 22:37-40 (NKJV), "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the Prophets."
Therefore, we fulfill the law by loving God first and then loving others. Practicing this love not only obeys God's commandments but also nurtures our spiritual growth and deepens our faith, making God's love more real in our lives.
