The Bible’s admonishment to “fear not” lands on deaf ears, even for some who consider themselves Christians. Others, without an ounce of faith, look for relief in substances that promise to cool the searing fire of panic and anxiety. Why is it so difficult to convince the masses that there’s a better way?
The first step is to acknowledge that God really does exist and that every word in Scripture pointing to Jesus is meant to soothe believers, not condemn. Our Savior told us that when He went away, He would leave His Holy Spirit to guide and console. Since this amazing antidote to fear is available, it’s puzzling why it’s so misunderstood and refused.
Jesus is the Great Physician who wraps his arms around us in times of distress and keeps us going forward. Warmth and comfort stand strong like a shield that nothing can penetrate.
No matter what scary storm blows ill winds in our direction, we are covered with the blessed cure for sheer panic and, as a famous poet wrote last century, we can keep our heads when those all around us are losing theirs.
There really is a “balm in Gilead” at the ready to enfold us in the sweet reassurance of God’s love and protection. It’s stunningly beautiful. It’s free.

Mark 4:39 (NLT)
When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly, the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.
