A child of freedom, given too much leniency.
A child of abuse, with too many chains.
Yes, opposites attract; it is God’s perfect plan.
But their original intent toward mutual love
was lived out in gross misunderstandings.
With no backing, no wise elders to consult,
distrust grew. Restlessness became the norm.
One sought the bottle, the other undesirable friends.
Negative emotions. Self-seeking attitudes. Fear.
Mean words. Lack of forgiveness. Distrust deepened.
Too many mistakes. Too much blame. Too long practiced.
They pushed each other downward, drilling a deep, deeper rut.
Hating the rut, seeing no way out, they eventually became . . .
. . . desperate to reclaim their fractured love, glimpsed among the debris.
God’s voice captured their attention –– a tender, constant wooing.
A call to “Come!” A call to calm. A call to rewrite,
to unlearn satanic habits. Lighting a way out of the rut.
Surrendering to the God of Love –– an ‘event’ of brokenness.
The years since –– the ‘process’ of remolding the clay.
Day by day, He put the fractured pieces back together.
Now, it’s positive emotions. Seeking the others’ needs first. Peace.
Kind words. Forgiving hearts. No blame. Trust.
Fewer mistakes. Talking out disagreements. Today? A team!
We ask, “How did we function before God’s Spirit guided our lives?”
We didn’t. We failed each other. And our covenant vows!
We needed His calm to dismantle the chaos we created.

Each going their own way. It’s a bicycle built for two.
Both heading the same direction, at the same pace.”

Update: My husband and I both surrendered to Jesus after 21 1/2 years of chaos, when our marriage was on the rocks and we had separated.
Coming back together, we became determined to live God's Way. For our baptisms, a woman gave us $50. We used it to buy Christian marriage books and dove into them together.
That was 28 years ago. And this summer, we'll celebrate our 50th anniversary.
