Filled with adoration, hands anxious to raise
In devoted adulation as they await
The first strum, drum, and keyboard sign to start.
The gathering flock seems to know the music, so
Voices from the stage, not low, are drowned out
By singing of the masses as a time of hidden expressions
Held in too long, explodes to embrace beloved compositions.
Bodies packed so tightly in the overwrought space bring the
Temperature to a fevered pitch, making it difficult to breathe,
So two escape to fresh air and peace
Glad to leave a place they find too hot to even think.
And just as they turn while walking away
A horrific sight forever sears in each brain
Of leaping flames and screams of terror
An unbelievable, unthinkable, and undeniable bad thing has happened!
A few attendees spill out the single doors, running and gasping
But others trapped by fire are doomed to an unplanned eternity.
Sirens fill the night with alarm for all but hope for a few
As brave responders do their job and are able to save a remnant.
They finally trudge away with a sad acceptance of the site
Back to base to get clean and ready for the next disaster
And hoping it’s empty like an old barn or condemned building
And not a place that’s illegal for crowds too big and doors too small.
The famous raging band quickly exits through the back
And jumps on their plush bus to feel low for a bit, but in high-hopes
Headed for the upcoming venue on the list, believing it’s better
While trying to erase this close-call from their worldly-numbed brains
Onlookers venture to muse,“They can’t help it if they’re idols.”
Others shake their heads, knowing for sure that humans are
NOT to be worshipped--only our Heavenly Father.
All else is folly, but sadly, the beat goes on.
