Am I a magnet with attracting power, or tacky tape, or other kinds of goo?
Tentacles of false lack that reach from mysterious unreason
Have held me captive from dumping old stuff into a big plastic sack!
Mountains of papers demand to be filed and to stay
When I’m trying so hard to throw them away
And clothes with small holes beg not to leave
Preferring to remain stored in a box way in the back.
Lids without bowls and bowls without lids
Hide in the dark to produce even more kids
That don’t match anything here and, of course, never will
But why are they so hard to throw out?
Like a slew of graffiti, my wall of defense is a stifling disguise
My creeping pile of stock led me straight to a place called un-wise
Tons of everyday goods convict me of all those things I don’t need
But how did sneaky inanimate objects gain so much clout?
After one loaded trip to a place they resell or restore
I return to my base to find there’s still a lot more
A sermon I hear all about baggage and how life is so short
Sets me to thinking I need to dig in for good and far deeper.
A new mother with little to spend might be able to smile
At well-kept blankets and cute little clothes still in style
But my child is a man full-grown and out on his own
Yet, even well-preserved, why did I think baby things should be keepers?
Lamp shades and old lamps, and books stacked to the ceiling
Are off to somewhere more useful and much more appealing
As I aim for other ways to get so many items unhooked
I look forward to my final new home out of this worldly space.
No storage lockers are there, or old coats I might want to hoard
Since raiment will be provided as we praise in one glorious accord
Anything else pales in comparison to spending eternity with our Maker
In an uncluttered, beautiful, awesome, Hallelujah place!
With each piece I send out the door and turn back to once again face
More stuff that held me trapped in a stupid death-grip embrace
I see it’s greatly reduced and forwarded to new homes unknown
And now nothing is stuck to my changed attitude, so I rejoice in being stuff-free.
When God says it’s time to enter my new dwelling above
I’m happy to know out of forgiveness, mercy, and love
My fam won’t feel trouble with the nonsense of wood, hay, and stubble, and
I pray no one clings to anything left, but only to memories of the real me.

Matthew 6: 19-20 (NLT)
Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.
Store your treasures in Heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
