“We’re going to die,” I remember thinking as our car crossed the I-10 medium and across traffic.
It all started when my sister and I were headed back to Las Vegas from a week-end trip in Los Angeles. We had had a fun trip in Disneyland and were ready to come home. But the ride that was about to happen was far more frightening and dangerous than any Disneyland ride.
We were in the leftmost lane and hit some gravel near the median. The next thing you know, we’ve lost control of the car and are speeding across the median and into incoming traffic.
“We’re going to die,” I thought, surprisingly calmly. It all happened in seconds. Miraculously, we cross the lane without being hit, go up a hill, hit a small pine tree that slows the car, and land in the parking lot of a Motel 6.
Just like a Chevy Chase Vacation movie, without the laughter.
God had saved our lives. A friend of mine tells us how one speaker told her that when we get to heaven there will be a hologram library where we can see all the times God intervened in our lives. I would like to watch the hologram of that car accident. I’m sure I would see an angel or two lifting the car, protecting us.
Our car, a Honda Civic, actually was able to be backed onto a tow truck, but not surprisingly was totalled by the insurance company. My sister’s and my injuries, only whiplash.
We stayed the night at that Motel 6 where the owner told us how his mother prayed over the motel every night, and for the safety of those who stayed there. Or in our case for those who were ABOUT to stay there.
I sometimes think of the things I would never have accomplished if we had died that day.
Lord, you spared my life; may I use it for your glory.
And with God’s guidance, strength, and power, I pray that I am.
