Friends. It is so hard to make friends. I'm so lonely. My husband has no time for me, and my son is off following Jesus.
Jesus. I still find it hard to believe that my son is a follower of Jesus. I never saw that coming. Judas has been such a loner all of his life. I so wanted him to have friends. And now, with Jesus, I pray he has found the perfect friend. I don’t know Jesus, but his words mesmerize me. His kindness enthralls me. His miracles take my breath away.
Could it be, could it really be? Is Jesus the Messiah, the one who will free us from the Romans? I think that may be what Judas is hoping for. I’m not sure how he will take it, if he’s wrong.
I was so happy that my son finally had friends. but..but…I just wish I had a friend. And then, somehow, somewhere Jehovah brought me a friend. I started talking in the market with this woman who had such kind eyes. told her how proud I was of my son for following the rabbi, Jesus.
She smiles and tells me, “I know what you mean. I’m very proud of my son as well. I miss him.”
“Sons are indeed a gift from Jehovah. Who is your son?”
“A true gift from Jehovah. My son is Jesus.”
Mary and I have had such good conversations. Like her son, she was so kind and such a good listener. I could see in her eyes, her worry over Jesus. So many enemies.
And then came the day when my son destroyed both his friendship, and mine with one unbelievable act.
My son, my son, how could you do this to Jesus? How could you do this to Mary? PAUSE How could you do it to me?
Judas finally had a friend, and he betrayed him! My son, Jesus’ enemy. And yet, I don’t think Jesus considered Judas his enemy. held it against him. I think Jesus would have forgiven him If my son had repented. But Judas chose to hang himself instead.
How could I ever expect Mary to be my friend after my son betrayed hers.
I felt so lonely….And then there was the horror of the Romans crucifying Jesus. My heart ached for my friend, and what she was going through. I wanted to go and comfort her, but my shame over being the mother of his betrayer held me back.
But then, three days later, Mary came to see me, glowing with joy. I didn't understand butI hugged her and said,
“Mary, I am so glad to see you. I am so sorry for what my son did to your son… PAUSES AS IF LISTENING
Jesus has been raised from the dead?”
And after giving me the incredible news, my friend Mary ran off to tell others.
My friend
My heart
My son’s betrayal
Drove us apart
Through the sacrifice of your son
We are once again as one
Sometimes, I have felt like the enemy of God. But through Jesus’ sacrifice, I know that I not only have a friend in Mary. I have a friend in Jesus. Forever.
