“Come here and see what I can do.”
He held aloft a tall, wide bag.
It didn’t fall nor even sag.
. . . But nothing did it have inside.
“I’m strong,” said Billy Ray, age five.
“I am the strongest boy alive.
I’m not just strong – I’m also tall,
And I’m the highest one of all.”
. . . He stood at tip top of the steps.
I’m strong,” said Billy Ray, age ten.
“I’m better than I’ve ever been.
At candy sales I am the best,
For I sold more than all the rest.”
. . . His parents had bought every bar.
“I’m strong” said Billy Ray at twenty.
In college, he’d awards aplenty.
As captain of the football team,
Quite gifted he was, it did seem.
. . . It was his team who’d done the work.
Sometimes I’m just like Billy Ray
As I go bragging on my way.
Each time I say that I am strong,
I’m positively in the wrong.
. . . It’s God alone who is my strength.
