So much to do before the date
A call too soon, yet always known
No travel mate, just me—alone
Bags I’ve hauled for years and years
Full of pain and useless tears
Must be unpacked and left behind
No room for “stuff” of any kind
Nothing but a contrite heart
A ticket to a brand-new start
The road’s been long and full of strife
Worthless pages, selfish life
An adage teaches sticks and stones
May bruise our bodies and break some bones
And hateful words should have no clout
But that’s confusion fueled with doubt!
Tongues let loose shoot foolish darts
Poisoned words stab fragile hearts
When gentle souls feel so forsaken
They might choose paths should not be taken
As one whose course is in full view
I offer hard-won wisdom to all of you
We can’t ignore sincere forgiveness
Or leave behind unfinished business
Things must be shared pre-final curtain
And lists to check, I know for certain
PLEASE forgive things said or done
Whether ugly true or just in fun
Scripture says to be a light, a lamp of proof
To let it go, lift it up, accept the TRUTH
Pardon others and ask of them the same
Jettison all that baggage, this is no game!
Someday you’ll have to make that trip
The final call to pure Devine relationship
Do not fear as you get to Heaven’s GATE
Your new address change--the once and only real Estate!
Dear Lord, please accept our repentance
As we face our final sentence
Knowing Jesus paid our dues and forgave our past
We’ll live in sweet eternal peace and be at HOME at last!
