How can I write of mercy,
When none was offered to me?
Rejection and judgement in plenty.
Unloving control.
Condemnation.
Then the mighty revelation:
Mercy WAS offered to me
Two thousand years ago.
I was naught but a thought in the mind of God
When He offered mercy to me.
I learn to accept His mercy.
I learn to accept His love.
I learn to accept His forgiveness,
And that guiding hand from above.
Because:
Mercy WAS offered to me
Two thousand years ago.
I was naught but a thought in the mind of God
When He offered mercy to me.
The merciful will find mercy.
Now I am taking the next step,
More like a massive leap -
I walk in the steps of my Father,
So that His Word I keep.
The merciful will find mercy.
His Spirit is dwelling within me.
His Word is teaching me
That I, too, can offer mercy -
Because He has set me free.
The merciful will find mercy.
Now when somebody hurts me
I feel the pain of THEIR heart.
And so I can show them mercy
And not respond with the dart
Of resentment and anger and hatred,
But just with the Love of God,
And feet that are shod with the gospel of peace.
So lovingly onward I plod –
Showing mercy.
And I know:
The merciful will find mercy.
