Ah, the parable of the lost sheep. I love that parable, “And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices more than over the ninety-nine..” Matthew 18:13 ESV
REPEATS THOUGHTFULLY
Rejoices more than over the ninety-nine. I wonder what it would have been like to be the wife of such a shepherd…
PUTS ON A BIBLICAL HEADDRESS
Where are you going, Lemuel? You’re going after little Nimrita? She’s lost again? At least the other 99 are safe… You have 99 sheep, Lemuel. Can’t you settle for that?… I know, I know, you want all 100 home safe.
There he goes as he has gone so many times before, always looking after the one lost sheep. Each sheep is different, how can my husband tell them apart—but he can..
He calls them by name, and they know his voice.
Lemuel kisses me goodbye, tells me he’ll be back when he has found the lost sheep.
That’s the heart of my husband, that’s the heart of the shepherd.
It doesn’t matter that there are still 99 sheep in the sheep pen. The flock is incomplete, there’s a hole in the flock for one is missing. There is a hole in my husband’s heart because one of his flock is missing.
Hours go bye, as I anxiously wait. And then he comes home! Rejoicing! Yes! He has little Nimrita on his shoulders.
Hurray! The lost is found. We will be having a grand celebration. For the lost is found!
WOMAN REMOVES THE HEADDRESS
If there had been only me,
would Jesus still have died upon the tree?
Yes! If there had only been one
He still would have done
it.
Can I be Jesus’ hands, his feet, his voice
To let the lost sheep
Know they still have the choice
To come to Him.
Lord, help me to be in tune with what you want done
May I never been so obsessed with the 99 that I forget the one.
Each sheep is special
Each sheep is rare
Each sheep is deserving of the shepherd’s care
Oh listen to the shepherd’s voice
Listen, then and make your choice
