As they grew, it became evident that Sarah Belle was the brains of the operation.
The others yearned to question many of her decisions that affected the whole group, but in keeping with the agreement at birth they were bound to obey. They often flinched at some of her debatable choices. When she named the tunes and struck a bad chord they were forced to sing along.
Patty Olivia, Cardi Anna, René, and Arron all balked when Sarah decided they should try cigarettes, alcohol, dangerous drugs, smoke funny stuff, and eat an unhealthy diet consisting of whatever came to her mind. Some days it was ice cream only, or maybe five kinds of pizza with too many sugary drinks. Thanksgiving dinner became a seriously dangerous time of unchecked excess.
Patty often cried, “Please Sarah, I hate that awful liquor stuff. It makes me feel sick and weird. This isn’t right.”
True to form, overbearing Sarah made the usual tacky response, “Shut up! Don’t forget, I’m the one in charge.”
After many years of suffering, Arron was diagnosed with lung cancer. Some of the cousins who lived nearby began to fall ill as well since they tended to do what Queen Sarah Belle insisted. Tommy nearly died of a bleeding ulcer. His sister, Pansy, suffered a sudden inflammation that came close to killing her. Diabetes was the next step.
Something had to be done. None of the rather naive followers in this clueless family knew exactly what that might be until Cousin Otis shared what he had heard about how something called prayer can change things. He also reported that he suspected even smarty-pants Sarah had to answer to a higher power---the real boss. She was not at the top of the corporate ladder after all.
Things began to get interesting.
The Word that Otis had heard was simple. If they let Sarah’s Superior rule over this grave situation, there was a chance of recovery from the damage she had caused. His perfect viewpoint would always eclipse her bad judgment.
They all agreed to trust the new leader. He could re-wire and adjust the silly, bossy boots that had pushed all of them to the edge of death. It was time for a showdown. There was a new sheriff in town.
After coming face-to-face with Him, a new understanding grew quickly about how things worked. It was as if Sarah, and of course the others, were born a second time. With excellent teaching and proper nutrition, good physical and spiritual health blossomed in each one. The future began to look rosy.
Moral: As long as there’s life, it’s never too late to fix, modify, re-group, and make amends. That always turns out to be the best decision any body can make!
