I thought they were so funny,
And If I’d had a lot of it,
I’d shared with them my money.
When they refused to do their work,
It didn’t bother me.
I was just there to draw my pay.
They mattered not to me.
For students who disrupted class,
I paid them no attention.
When no one had a chance to learn,
That wasn’t worth a mention.
And if they mocked me when I spoke
I didn’t care a bit.
Not even when they sassed and jibed,
Did I get tired of it.
And that’s enough of irony!
I tried to love each one,
The ones who’d try and those who’d not,
When all was said and done.
These youth, created by God’s hand,
Were dearly loved by Him,
And I could not do any less
Than to be kind to them.
And though God helped me through the years,
I honestly confess:
I am not sorry I’m retired,
And now I get to rest.
