I’ve read many an ad
Some were quite good
Others so bad
The truth is revealled by the age of the ad
Slogans made
Adages spoken
Promises made
Promises broken
Want to lose a bunch of weight
Without worrying about the pizza
You just ate?
Buy our product
It’s just great
The slogans run through my head
As I watch infomercials
In my bed
Should I buy this?
It promises such bliss
Years ago an ad might say
These cigarettes are great
Doctor smoke them every day!
The truth came out
The danger was clear
The truth was revealed
In the course of the year
Time pulled back the curtain
Dangerous lies such a crime
The ads did not pass the test of time
An ad that once sounded so good
Was clearly so bad
The truth revealed
By the age of the ad
As the years went by
The lies became clear
They piled up and piled up year after year
But God’s word is timeless
It never is trite
His word stands forever
And always is right
God’s word never fails
Worldly wisdom always pales
In comparison
Promises made
Promises spoken
God’s word is true
It never is broken
