What better way to show the Truth about the Savior than a brief reminder from Biology 101. Picture a heart, not the Valentine kind, but the reality of an ideal pump that sends blood throughout the body in a specific order.
After delivering oxygen and nutrients to all our organs and tissues, blood makes a quick return trip to re-enter the heart. It flows to our lungs to get rid of waste and to grab a fresh bunch of oxygen. Then, whoosh, it takes off again. Over, and over, and over.
This cleansed blood leaves through the aorta (our main heart artery) and zips out again to deliver nourishment to waiting cells. Round and round and round it goes! Amazing!
It’s like a train wending across the country, or a ship at sea filled with cargo to deliver and then return over a billion times. We must have this dependable flow to stay alive. The powerful cardiac muscle continuously pumps oxygen-rich blood out to the body. For many, this miraculous process can continue for a hundred years.
As blood surges on its constant trip through arteries to deliver oxygen and nutrients to all our parts (north, east, south, and west), at the same time it picks up carbon dioxide and other waste products to deliver back through veins to be dumped and begin again. Throughout our lives, that heart of all our matter keeps beating, beating, beating.
It would take a thousand words to draw a picture worth the many rich analogies to the Savior.
Even though blood also contains white blood cells that we need to protect us from infection and other enemies to our health, this comparison focuses on the simple, basic view of the heart’s main job.
As we all can attest, this dependable, constant, human dynamo sometimes goes awry. Red flags send pounding, skipping, and blockage messages that cannot wait and scream for an intervention.
Modern technology can provide incredible patches, stents, by-passes, and medications to give us time until the Lord calls us home. Perhaps there is a reason for that extension.
Safety precautions follow a strict protocol when a patient with a severe injury or surgery requires a transfusion to sustain life. First, a tiny sample of their blood must be sent to the lab for a type and cross-match. That’s to ensure compatibility. The wrong choice could cause irreparable harm, even death.
That brings us back to our precious JESUS. It’s HIS blood that washes our souls and spirits and discards the waste and poison we have endured, welcomed, or even hoarded. Mental, physical, and spiritual agony begs for the cleansing and a new beginning that will pump joy into every part.
The profound reason God’s Son was born was to wash us in His life-giving force that will put us on the ultimate journey to Heaven after our earthly heart thumps for the last time.
He is our blood-kin, our CROSS match, our only hope for eternal life. Amen! Amen! Amen!

Hebrews 9:14 (NLT)
Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
