Everywhere I go I keep hearing that name.
Jesus.
It seems like whenever I ask a question, the answer is Jesus.
A friend tells me “Did you hear about the miracle? A rabbi fed 5000 men and their families with a little boy's lunch?
“What rabbi was that?” I ask.
He scrunched his face, and scratched his head, "Let me think, ah yeah, Jesus."
And then I ask,
“Isn’t that the beggar from the temple? Who healed him?
Jesus.
Who healed the leper
Who walked on water?
Who forgave that prostitute her sins?
The answer was always the same.
Jesus.
His name filled my thoughts, day and night. Who was this Jesus?
He forgave that prostitute’s sins.
Could he?
Would he?
Forgive MY sins?
But there were so many.
I was a pretty tough customer. And perhaps that was why my son was in prison, awaiting crucifixion.
I hear an uproar. Pilate is offering to release a prisoner for Passover, the people are asked to choose between Jesus and ... Barrabas?
Like a fly to honey, I am drawn to Pilate's court to hear the answer to Pilate's question. I'm expecting that once again, like the answer to every other question, the answer will be Jesus.
But no. The crowd is chanting "Barrabas." The crowd is choosing my son over Jesus?
Who died in the place of my son?
Jesus.
Who died in my place?
Jesus
Three days of confusion followed as I wrestled with how Jesus could be dead.
But then came a new question with that same answer.
Who just rose from the dead?
Jesus.
Who forgave the sins of a hard-hearted bandit mother?
Jesus.
The answer to every question that matters.
Jesus.
