Job 4:12 (NLT)
A mysterious and always on-duty moral patrol comes stored in a human’s spirit at birth and is meant to weigh our responses on God’s commandment scale.
Ever on guard, it is mostly ignored by many, and welcomed by some. As soft and misty as a vapor this sentinel of our souls surrounds us like a shadow, ready to redirect.
It guards us with reminder flicks to condemn those honesty lapses, whether we intended wrong or not, to heed the ideal set down since time began.
A standard required from the Creator, this ever-ready prod delivers tiny jabs to agitate our options when we lie, big or small, felt by those who listen, rejected by minds scorched by evil.
This *Hound from Heaven sometimes must march into battle, shield held high, arrows of guilt shot with searing fire, not to kill us but to demand we listen to a still small voice of wisdom that forces us to acknowledge the Truth.
Instead of facing this moral pursuit and asking forgiveness, millions hide in bottles filled with poison, to drink or inject, angry at the world, and slaves to false gods with no chance for redemption before death arrives at a desperate price. Even easier, but sad, is to pretend it's all a fantasy.
Rivers of tears and what-ifs and whys cannot drown the agony, grief, and torture of souls who have no concept that what they feel is that eternal inborn conscience pounding on the door begging to be heard.
When TRUTH demands a private audience, there is no place to hide. Repentance and yielding to the Father is the only relief to soothe behavior’s worst assault, whatever the degree, but always prompted by that loyal moral code, that compass, implanted before our birth.
This unrelenting pursuit that chases us with pounding hoofs or even quiet angel wings is meant to offer the only thing that truly sets us free!
As Christians, we have a job--to make sure it does not remain a secret.

By Francis Thompson, 1890
I fled Him, down the nights and down the days;
I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears
I hid from Him…
