My mind is thick
With a quagmire of worry
Anxious thoughts scurry
Back and forth in my mind
Will the rise of inflation ever stop
The pressure within me is about to pop
Migrants flooding the border
There is no order
In our city
It isn’t pretty
What’s happening there.
Every time I go to the grocery store
The prices increase more and more
The price of gas
Makes me gasp
Will I have to stay at home
And never go far
Because I can’t afford the gas
For my car?
I look with fear at my bank account
How did it get to be
Such a small amount
I have bills to pay
I need a ray
Of hope
And then
Deep within me I hear a still small voice
Fear or joy—it’s a choice
And I realize
I’ve been focusing on the wrong thing
Focusing on the problems
Will only bring
Fear.
Sometimes I forget
How Jesus has met
My needs again and again
I open my eyes to see the hope that is there
More and more people are praying
No longer straying
From God’s truth
We have to understand
God has not taken us out of His hand
I need to focus on my great God
He is my staff he is my rod
I still have to do my part
But in the process I keep my heart
Focused on him
Again I hear the still small voice
Fear or joy, it’s a choice.
