No one around with an opinion to ask
You can feel alone
With no one to hone
Your skill
Give your gift of comments to a fellow writer.
Encouraging words can make their spirits brighter.
Getting some praise
Brightens our days
Makes the load lighter
The future brighter
As Christians we know
Critiquing can also be a gift
Just the thing it takes to lift
Our writing to the next level
We’re afraid to critique and hurt feelings
But how can we grow
Unless someone lets us know
How we can improve
Iron sharpens iron
But don’t be too sharp
For it can cut out the heart
Of a beginning writer
If I have spinach in my teeth
Please tell me
If my writing is beneath
What it could be
Please tell me
Is my message clear
Am I holding my words too dear
To my heart
Let the learning start!
The truth hurts
Is a saying I’ve heard
But through truth comes growth spurts
If it’s an authentic word
It can help me as a writer
It can make my future brighter
But if it’s wrong?
Do you have to go along
With every word that’s spoken
Wrong words have broken
The spirit of a fledgling writer
I hold critiques lightly in my hand
And blow away the chaff
What’s left is so special
It makes me laugh
To see my prowess grow
A critique is a personal thing
So much growth can it bring
And if it’s true
What a gift
The critic helped you to lift
Your writing to a higher plane
Take the suggestions
offered to you
Lift them to God and ask
“Lord, is this true?”
If it’s just an opinion
Or a matter of taste
You don’t have to take it
But it wasn’t a waste
For it still made you think
And it still made you pray
And that helps a writer improve
Every day
There’s nothing more valuable than
fellow writers’ time
When they’re reading
They’re not writing
How exciting
They spent their time on me
I want to shout with glee
Thank you!
Thank you all for your gifts to this fellow writer.
