“Every word of God is flawless, a shield of protection to those who take refuge in Him." Prov 30:5 (NIV)
I think of three people who were shielded by God...Rahab, Ruth and... well, I'll let the third person be a mystery for now.
I think of a woman whose life, whose plight preceded these written words of Proverbs 30:5 but whose life didn't precede that truth.
I think of a woman who was far from being one of God's people but wasn't far from the plans and purposes of God. I wonder what it would have been like to be Rahab?
WOMAN PUTS ON BIBLICAL HEADDRESS
What are those Israelites doing, marching around the city?
The Israelite spies PROMISED me that I would be safe if I would stay here and not betray them to the authorities.
Their words are their God's words to me. I know that I know that I know that Jericho is doomed and deservedly so.
We are such a wicked people. And I include myself among those wicked people. I’ve allowed the wickedness of the city to seep into my soul.
But somehow by some miracle--as wicked as I have been I have another chance. I believe the promises of those two spies are supported by the word of their God. And I believe that word is true and I will be protected, delivered from the attacks.
Even before I met His people, Jehovah captured my imagination and heart. A God who fought for His people, whose word was also true and not dependent on whims. A God who protected His people as a shield around them.
Jehovah, my God, my shield, Your words ever true. Jehovah, how grateful I am to be shielded by You.
WOMAN REMOVES HEADDRESS
I think of another woman who was far from being one of God's people but wasn't far from the plans and purposes of God. I wonder what it would have been like to be Ruth?
WOMAN PUTS HEADDRESS BACK ON
Here I am in a strange land, the only person I even know here is Naomi. Here I am so from my …. home? No, Moab may have been where I grew up, but it was never my home.
It's so strange. I should be afraid, in a strange land filled with people who hate Moabites but I'm not. I feel the protection of Naomi's God, dare I say it? My God.
I'm not sure what's going to happen to me next but I know this Even before I came to the land of his people, Jehovah captured my imagination and heart.
A God whose word is true and not dependent on whims like the so-called gods of Moab. A God who protects His people with a shield around them.
Jehovah, my God, my shield, Your words ever true. Jehovah, how grateful I am to be shielded by You.
WOMAN REMOVES HEADDRESS
Rahab and Ruth, shielded by God. But you’re wondering who is the mysterious third person I mentioned?
Well, I've had my share of being shielded by God. My sister and I were in a car accident where we crossed oncoming traffic on Interstate 10 headed to Las Vegas and only experienced whiplash. I have more stories of God’s protection than time to tell.
Jehovah, my God, my shield, Your words ever true. Jehovah, how grateful I am to be shielded by You.
But I'm not that third person. I think you may know who that third person is. You see them in the mirror every morning.
If you are a believer in Christ, you know how His word is true and how He's been a shield around you, protecting you again and again.
And so I say,
Three people protected by God
Rahab, Ruth and who?
Three people protected by God
Rahab, Ruth and
You

But it took me while to figure out the headdress stuff. Perhaps having it in parenthesis would have been more effective.
I like the way you closed off with the rhyme.
Enjoyed it!
