Always ready to support and love with a minimum of strife
And he hoped, at last, he had found a mate to stand beside
To give support and loyalty and who’d be the perfect bride
Advice from friends and others pushed him to end his search
He missed the part to love her as Christ did love the church
Candlelight and music and flowers everywhere
Announced the pending nuptials of this optimistic pair
She wobbled down the aisle to a handsome shining knight
He stood stone-still trembling and terrified with fright
Neither seemed to hear the words the pastor clearly said
Or questions asked to prove that they had truly wed
Do you was answered with a well-rehearsed I do
But they didn't know God's Covenant was now the marriage glue
She tried to be worthy of a price above a gem
He made a stab at believing that she truly loved only him
He had wanted better, but what he thought he got was worse
They both looked back at health with sickness now a curse
She had wanted richer but realized the poor man had deceived
And both knew romantic notions lied and neither had believed
They rocked along on separate paths until they lost their way
And without the other knowing, each decided now to pray
How did I lose sight of making his life sweet?
Why could I not love the woman God sent as my help-mete?
Now old and getting close to the ‘til death us do part ending
They realized shattered fences were still in need of mending
So, they decided to back it up and try the thing again
Very soon they blossomed into spouses they always should have been
One was in a bed with rails and a bell to call the nurses
The other sat for days to comfort and read those Bible verses
But no one left or died at that impending lonely place
As healing came, God let them continue their shaky-started race
This time, better late than never, at last, they merged as mates
She loved the old guy completely and he thought she was great
But the story doesn’t end there (correct me if I’m wrong)
I heard how they roll at “the home” and still are going strong!
Her worth soars above mere rubies now that she is in his heart
And she wouldn’t trade him for anything, a perfect way to re-start
Yes, faith can move big mountains and re-route us ‘til we perish
But why not follow Proverb’s plan to simply love and cherish.
(And finally, they lived happily ever after)
