Did I not trust God’s guidance?
Was my understanding amiss?
I trusted,
I leaned long,
But I landed in a mess.
Was that God guiding?
Or was I deceived?
I believed He inspired perspective,
Understanding,
A way to negotiate peace.
The way seemed so clear,
So straightforward,
So hopeful,
So possible with God,
But of course—only with God!
Just when I thought I understood—
The prayers of Christ,
The example He set,
The words He preached—
And acted on those words . . .
Then debacle, fiasco,
All was askew.
Too bold?
Too proud?
Lacking discernment?
Too trusting?
Naive?
I thought I knew what I knew, but
Askew.
Humiliation and shame,
Confession to God and man,
Humbled and repentant.
Mercy and grace
Given and received.
Forgiven!
Head and spirit raised up.
Begin again.
Trust.
Oh, so hard to trust.
Lean into Him.
Give up on understanding.
His ways are not my ways,
His thoughts are not my thoughts.
Downside up, upside down
Askew
From my view.
But He is God and I am not . . .
