My company held dear
I worked so hard
To be employee of the year
But it wasn’t the piece
To bring me peace
I sought more and more applause
But my emptiness gave me pause
Acclaim wasn’t the piece
To bring me peace
I love my dogs, Bandit and Smokey.
But all their licks couldn’t make me feel OK
Every bark and ruff
Just wasn’t enough
They weren’t the piece
To bring me peace
I did my best to be kind and good
Always doing the things I should
But it wasn’t the piece
To bring me peace
I endlessly craved the approval of others
Trying to please Christian sisters and brothers
But they weren’t the piece
To bring me peace
All my efforts just pulled me apart.
Causing me to have a fractured heart
I just couldn’t find the missing piece
To bring me peace
And then in comes Jesus
Who takes all my heart’s pieces
And holds them in His nail scarred hands
“Let go of the demands
And come to Me
I’ll set you free”
I breathed in the freedom
That comes with Christ’s kingdom
I had finally found the missing piece
In the presence of the Prince of Peace
