“I’m tired of being bored.”
Her mother said, “You’ve lots to do.
Go get your boogie board.”
Elizabeth just rolled her eyes,
As teens are wont to do,
And said, “That’s no fun anymore.
I’m needing something new.”
Her mother then reminded her,
“The ocean’s at your feet.
It seems the way you love the beach,
Your joy would be complete.”
Elizabeth just sighed again,
“You do not understand.
It’s no fun with my friends not here,
Alone with sea and sand."
“Where are your friends?” her mother asked.
“It’s strange that they’re all gone.”
“Well, Jane is babysitting now,
While Mary mows the lawn.
Marie’s gone to the book mobile
To get herself a book,
And Sue is at her grandma’s house,
Who’s teaching her to cook.”
“Then where are Jim and George today?
They often tag along”
“They’re with the choir at the church.
They’re learning a new song.”
“Since all your friends are busy now
With things they’ve found to do
Appears to me, the only one
Who’s being bored is you.”
