It’s a metaphorical passage full of lessons drawn from familiar warnings inherent in transportation modes from the four-footed to the four-wheeled. Camels, donkeys, horses, carriages, and wagons were replaced in time-honored analogies with cars, trucks, bicycles, trains and other holders-of-humans that would roll, slide and eventually fly.
All paint a picture of making our way down everything from yellow brick to paths of primrose, from paved with intentions (good and bad) to winding or rocky. Potholes are free.
Life is a trip!
For measurement’s sake, we begin before age one and head for a hundred. There are hazards and detours for sure. We cross bridges to nowhere or foolishly attempt dangerous ones that will wash out right beneath our feet. Signs go unheeded that clearly warn about wrong ways that we should not enter. Why can’t we read?
Why do we insist that rides on streetcars named desire will let us off before foretold crashes from which we may not recover?
The truth is so beautifully simple. Our journey begins at birth. The final destination, if we’ve paid attention to the Holy Manual God provided, is one of two places. The ideal one is Heaven.
This weary traveler has learned that rearview mirrors may be good for strolls down memory lane but can trigger painful kicks of regret to the solar plexus of our souls! It’s wiser to keep a grip on that lamp unto our feet and move forward confidently to the eternal rest area promised to all who choose the right direction.
Do not be blinded by other traffic lost and trying to lead others with no concept of a true spiritual compass. There are no group rates, no tour buses, and no HOV lanes. It’s each one alone, a sheep taking one step at a time and always listening in obedience to the Shepherd’s voice.
There’s only one way!

Matthew 7:13-14 NLT
You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Wow! What a profound message! I love the topicality of your entry and the theology of the narrow road, based on personal experience. I thankfully relate to to the article in my journey, emulating Paul running the race for the eternal crown.
