When I put my arms around her, she was inconsolable, with huge tears dampening the shoulder of my blouse. She went on to explain that she had told her supervisor already and she would pay to replace it. I hugged her and told her it was only ‘stuff,’ and we would take care of replacing it.
When my husband and I returned to the apartment after the meeting, I found that she had cleaned up all the glass and had stood the broken ornate frame with the picture still inside against the wall. One of my favorites, this is a rural scene with chickens and geese on a dusty path and a bridge, both leading to a rustic cottage amid blooming trees against a background of wispy mountains. Across the bottom is a verse: Every path He leads us on is fragrant with His loving kindness and His truth. Psalm 25:10
I thought of getting a new picture, but as nothing appealed to me more than the one with the broken frame, I set out to see if it could be saved, and I found the picture itself in good condition. I searched for and found a frame that suited and hung it where it belonged. Now I’m reminded whenever I come into the house that the Lord is with me, and I’m reminded, also, of how thankful I am that when He saw the broken parts of my life, He redeemed me.
