That’s popular to play
“Let’s have fun
And go ahead and run
our credit cards up to the max.”
When we look at the Bible
We see there’s a choice
Of who to not listen to and
Who to listen to His voice
We could be a Samson
With gifts lavished in a shower
Of power
Beyond belief
But he only came to grief
For he had self
But not the control
A celibate man
Was not the role
He chose
Or we could be a Joseph
His brothers betrayed him
Taking him to the rim
Of despair
But he knew the care
Of Jehovah
And he stayed true
Even when Potiphar’s wife
Tried to ruin his life
But when all was said and done
He won
Why is self-control so hard?
Joseph made it look so easy
Frankly it would make me queasy
To go through the struggle he had
Joseph would say "On a pedestal I don’t belong
It would be so incredibly wrong
To give glory to me."
What is the secret to self control?
Then my mental light goes on!
The problem is self
We need to put it on a shelf
If we want to succeed like Joseph
To succeed at self-control
We need to surrender the starring role
Of our lives.
God loves us so much
We just need His touch
To succeed at what He made us to be.
