When my eyelids open, my serenity is lavender. No dizzying, dallying, hypnotizing images or messages dinging and ringing and plaguing my quietness. The inset pot-lights prod the fringes of the shadows and move them slowly into the closets, under the doors and beneath the bed. Whiffs of lavender flow from my aromatherapy. I luxuriate in the freshness of the new seconds, minutes and hours still ahead. I meditate on the gifts of moments. My life is in your hands.
When the covers fling back and my feet hit the floor, my serenity is blue. No restaurant colored, billboard flashing, neon patterned figures dancing by my eyes. I embrace the sense of sky all around my room – above, around, below. The light woos me toward flourishing and nourishing as I shower and dress and dance toward the day. You are the light of the world
When the door swings open and my lungs breathe in the freshness, my serenity is green. No gravel crunching, tarmac pounding, artificial carpeted surfaces beneath my feet. I embrace nature underfoot. I inhale the grandeur of gardens, lawns and trees. Running, walking, twisting, dancing, celebrating while the platelets of vibrancy flow through my veins and stimulate my heart. This is the day you have made.
When I reach the mountain meadow where my fixed-wing waits, my serenity is white. No smoggy, cloggy, nerve-jangling, car jockeying commute deafening my ears. I breathe in the vigor of ice and wind. I embrace the harness, sign the waiver, raise my wing, envy the eagle, feel the wind and run into the void where my feet walk on air. He lifts me up on wings like eagles.
When I float above creation, my serenity is a rainbow. Rivers, roads, railway tracks, mountains, fields, marshes, buildings, hills, flowers and a small white church. The scent of heaven is near. Two, then four, then six, then ten thousand feet – weightless, breathless, stressless, boundless. One hundred miles of wonder strewn across the curving horizon. He’s got the whole world in his hands.
When I drift back to earth, my serenity is red. No guilt, no shame, no fear to hinder who I’ll see or what I’ll do. Two thousand years ago, on a cross, the price was paid and I’m set free. The whiff of freedom courses through my soul. Praying, reading, thanking, loving, giving, hoping as faith gets unfurled like a flag. He leads in right paths for his name’s sake.
When I bow to worship, my serenity is golden. No barriers in tribe, tongue or nation. One Lord. One family. One creed. One destiny. Beyond the bounds of homes, hills and heavens I soar to unite my spirit with his. The whiff of peace permeates it all and with that sense I raise my voice to join the everlasting praises of angels who introduced the prince of peace so many years ago.
