A long, long time ago,
I see the times I’d have to wait,
And how the tears would flow.
I wanted promised treats to come
Right then, without delay,
And Christmas seemed like years away
When it was just a day.
My dad was quite a patient man,
A great example for me.
When I would lose my self-control,
With guidance, he’d restore me.
He spoke to me of Jesus’ love
And told me of His story,
Of how He lived and died on earth
Till He went back to glory.
While here, He taught we ought to live
With kindness and compassion,
And when I gave my heart to Him,
Then I made that my mission.
Now patience is an attribute
That’s difficult to live.
I find that I need all the help
The Dear Lord has to give.
I’m still not always cool and calm
Though I try not to show it.
If I jump up and down inside,
Not everyone will know it.
