So different, so the same
For they loved Jesus every day
But each one loved Him her own way
Mary gentle as a dove
Mary whose heart was full of love
Toward her Savior.
Her sister Martha was full of worry
She had to rush
She had to scurry
Her tone was so harsh
It could raise a blister
"Lord, please make her help me
Do something with my sister!"
But Mary had chosen the better thing
She didn’t want to spend her time rushing
Instead her heart she poured
Before the Lord.
Mary just wanted to sit and listen
In her eye, a tear would glisten
Over the beautiful words of the Lord.
Are we a Martha?
Are we a Mary?
We can be both
It’s not that scary
To bring our hearts
Before the Lord
To tell Him He’s worshipped
To say He’s adored
While we still work with our hands
To meet the world’s demands
To help those in need
To comfort those who bleed.
Come bring to Him your gentle hearts
Don’t attack with harsh words
Don’t shoot anger darts
When we sit at His feet
Our hearts open wide
There’s no need to pretend
There’s no need to hide
But His gentle touch
Is healing so much
Of our wounded hearts
To be a Mary or a Martha?
I can’t decide what to do
The answer is so simple
Be gentle—be you.
