Glorious with turtle doves and bouquets,
With wispy dresses and a veil for one
And matching rings to prove the union
They knew where to stand and how to march
And songs to be played later while
Friends would eat chicken dinners and sip
This or that while giving toasts to happiness
In all the eagerness to plan a life
To forge as husband and wife and
Perhaps one day for little feet to patter
On new shiny floors that last for years
Covenant vows so easily spoken
Then so easily broken had no strength
To face the storm when richer became poorer
And sickness replaced health
Those things some swear are true
Not idle words but sweet at the time
With no anchor to hold, can disappear
Like magic ink on fragile tissue paper
To honor and to cherish until the last
Bell calls us home is the part so many
Fail to grasp as they falter at the altar
Because God really wasn’t in the plan
Vows are profound words to speak
And not to be thrown aside
When tough times are at the door
But so few understand the implications
Someone should have refused to
Forever-now hold their peace
and pointed out the folly in making promises,
with miles to go, that probably would not keep.

Good job. Everyone should take the marriage vow seriously when making it.
