An old man with two pony-tailed sprites
Strolled along the beach,
Leaving imprints of their bare toes
Behind them in the damp sand.
Sometimes the girls ran ahead
Or lagged behind, but they never went
Too far beyond his careful supervision.
They stopped and stood together
To watch the journey of the sun.
One little girl pointed to the waves,
Glistening in sunshiny rays.
“Look, Grandpa,” she said,
“At the sparkles on the water.
Aren’t they pretty?”
“Sure are,” he replied.
“Our God likes to put beauty in nature,
Just like He did when He made my granddaughters.”
This inspired giggles and smiles.
Then the other girl leaned down to pick up
A glittering sand-crusted shell.
“See, Grandpa, more sparkles!”
“I see,” said he, and he asked,”
Do you know how to make
Your life be full of sparkles?"
Both giggled again and one said,
“You’re just being silly, Grandpa!”
Taking their little hands
In his big leathery ones, he explained,
“Every time you show kindness to others,
God sees your hearts,
And to Him, they are sparkling.”
Said the other, “Grandpa, I bet
When God sees your heart,
It sparkles all the time.

But I loved the special relationship between the grandfather and his granddaughters, the lesson he taught them and the ending sentence. Great use of the topic.
