It's true I teased our neighbor's boy and tried to make him mad.
But looking back, I think my folks would likely think of me
As just a girl who had her fun while hanging from a tree.
In high school, I got A's and B's and tried to figure out
Why I was born and what this thing called "life" was all about.
In church, I listened closely as it was explained to me
That Jesus is the answer; it is He who holds the key.
I hurried to the altar where the pastor met me there.
He told me to confess my sins and led me in this prayer:
"Forgive me of my sins, dear Lord, and make me born again
To serve you, Lord, for always and just not for now and then."
I found that when at college, some professors disagreed.
I would have argued further but there wasn't any need.
They said that the "purported" things that Jesus Christ had done
Were not the miracles they said but tales that men had spun.
I felt confused by these remarks by wiser men than I.
I loved this Christian college but I started wond'ring why
Some teachers taught their students that all paths will lead to God.
To say that there is just One Way is nothing but a fraud.
I tried to tell my classmates that there's only just One Way
But some believed the teachers and they soon began to stray.
I thought of all their parents who would be so overwrought
If they could know the heresy their kids were being taught.
I walked alone deep in the woods behind the campus there
And found a spot beneath a tree where I could kneel in prayer.
"Lord Jesus, I am so confused at what I'm hearing here
And pray for peace that You can give to rid me of my fear."
I sat there being quiet so that I could hear His voice
And soon it came into my mind: "My child, you have a choice.
You're free to choose the paths of those who don't believe in Me
Or stay my bride forever and for all eternity."
The peace of God spread over me, a blanket filled with love.
I looked toward the heavens and I raised my arms above.
"I'm still Your child forever, Lord, I stake my claim again.
Regardless of what others do, I still choose You. Amen."
