Timmy’s day wasn’t much better than his dad’s. First, a C on one of his papers, and then during gym he was picked on. Again. Always about his size, or lack of it. And now, of all times for it to happen, he couldn’t get into his locker. He started down the hall, hoping the math teacher in the room closest to his locker could help him. He didn’t want any of the other kids to know. They’d laugh. They always laugh. His head hung low. And then he thought of something, something that was going to happen tonight. And he smiled.
Jennifer felt about as low as she could. She had tried for the third time to move the house on Sunshine Lane, to no avail. Ha. Sunshine Lane. But, no one was interested. She wanted to be able to share with her family that she’d made a sale today. She was so confident going into it this morning. Now, she wanted to cry. But then, she remembered, and she smiled.

When Jerry walked through the front door, he found Jennifer and Timmy sitting on the sofa. Timmy working on his homework, looking totally uninterested, and Jennifer with a book, looking about the same.
They both slowly raised their heads and looked at Jerry. And the thoughts of the day drifted away to a place of utter joy and delight.
“Well, then,” said Jerry. “Let’s go.”
It took them all of one minute to pile into the car. They strapped the youngest in, and then headed out of the neighborhood. They drove for about 15 minutes, headed just outside of town. Jennifer was the first to see it, the DQ sign coming to life in the early evening. Jerry and Timmy followed suit. They parked. Got out. Went in.
In just a few minutes time they were at the table, sharing a large Sundae. Ah, the taste. Smooth ice-cream, nuts, syrup. They were together. They were happy.
And their world was right again.
