In the bursting of wondrous color of a sunrise
Or ocean’s jeweled waters rushing to the shore
Or valleys robed in green that rest neath snow-capped mountains—
These are just a taste of the beauty of heaven.
To feel the presence of God in quiet moments
While seeking direction from God’s Holy Word
Or lifting voice with others in joyful praise
Or receiving His comfort in an hour of grief—
These are just a taste of the awe of heaven.
To sit on the porch in the cool of the evening
After a day of difficult labor
Or to remember God’s care
In the midst of trials and worry and pain—
These are just a taste of the rest of heaven.
To welcome soldiers home from a tumultuous war,
To be in one accord with family and friends and fellow workers,
To watch little children playing happily together
Without any conflict among them—
These are just a taste of the peace of heaven.
To marry the dearest one of all,
To cherish the miracle of a newborn,
To know children grown are following the Lord,
To be together with loved ones after a long separation—
These are just a taste of the joy of heaven.
Though there is just a taste of heaven here below,
The fullness of heaven is assured,
Where there will be no broken bodies or broken hearts,
And there will be no darkness, for Jesus is the light.
This is the hope of the promise of heaven.
