Were in conspiracy.
Our birdseed they began to rob,
As sly as they could be.
We planned to thwart them if we could
From stealing any more.
Since they persisted in their thefts,
We had to go to war.
We thought we were superior
With brains of greater size,
Indicative to us, for sure,
They could not be as wise.
We armed ourselves with Vaseline
To wrap the pole around,
Then watched them climb up to the top,
Then slide back to the ground.
But when came showers, sad to say,
The grease was washed away,
And they returned with all their friends,
To feast another day.
“Put chile pepper on the seed,”
Was in a book I read,
But that did not deter at all.
They ate the more, instead.
A host of other tricks we tried--
Not one that did succeed.
Their intellect had surpassed ours,
We’d finally concede.
