Not always do I have to have my way.
With seven kids at home I found out quickly
That compromising helps avoid a fray.
My mother taught us early to play fairly
And not impose our will upon our friends.
By being stubborn, rigid and unbending
We'll more than likely see our friendship ends.
As years went by and I was growing older,
A young man introduced himself to me.
He'd seen me in our science class in college.
He looked so handsome, funny and carefree.
We dated for two years and then were married.
Though opposites, we often compromised.
We learned that flexibility's a virtue
That keeps a marriage sweet and energized.
But we have made a pact that we will never
Be flexible about the Word of God.
Believing that each word was God-inspired,
We cannot find a place where it is flawed.
The precious blood that freely flowed from Jesus
While dying on that cruel and rough-hewn tree
Provides the only cleansing power to save us
From life in hell for all eternity.
It doesn't change our minds that other Christians
Are deviating from God's proven Word.
The Bible when attacked needs no defending,
For God protects His Word, we've been assured.
We'll not be flexible about the three-some
Who form the blessed Holy Trinity.
The Father, Son and Holy Ghost we worship
Are best defined by their divinity.
When men with earned degrees deny that Jesus
Performed so many miracles on earth,
We simply state our solid faith in Scripture,
Ignoring insults said in blasphemous mirth.
As Jesus'Second Coming is approaching
When many who believed will turn away,
We Christians may be facing persecution
Like those in other countries face today.
We may be asked to turn our backs on Jesus,
Embrace another faith or lose our lives.
We pray we'll be inflexible, unyielding,
The day the enemy of God arrives.
Like those who wear a martyr's crown in heaven
For failing to renounce their faith in God,
We want to reaffirm our trust in Jesus
Before we turn to face the firing squad.
