Although it was ages ago, I can still see glimpses,
Like lightning streaks, of people in the Bible.

There is Moses, striding through the Red Sea,
Between great walls of water piled high,
With an unending line of Israelites behind him.

There is David, shepherd boy,
With a sling and five smooth stones
To face the mighty giant, Goliath.

There is Daniel in the lion’s den,
Surrounded by faces
Of ferocious beasts, held at bay.

There is Mary in a humble stable,
Cradling Infant Jesus
To her breast.

There is a John the Baptist,
Clothed in camels’ hair
And baptizing people in the river.

But in the clearest flashes of pictures,
Do I see Jesus ministering to others.

There He is,
Healing lepers and the blind and crippled,
And delivering tortured ones from demons.

There He is,
Calming the sea from a boat,
Where his disciples cower in fear.

There He is,
Teaching on a hillside
And blessing food to multiply it.

There He is,
Arms spread wide
To hold the little children.

There He is,
Driving buyers and sellers
From His holy temple.

There He is,
Riding on a donkey and being greeted
By shouts of Hosanna.

There He is, nailed to a cross
To suffer for the sins
Of all the world.

There He is, the Risen Lord,
Being carried to heaven
To sit at God’s right hand.

And here am I, worshiping,
Thankful for Bible images
And praising my Savior and King.
