The slang is used when someone tries to make excuses for their behavior. A judge on a certain daytime TV courtroom program often declares to her litigants: “that’s not a me problem, that’s a you problem!” Now I’m using the words to chastise myself. It’s my problem to figure out why I fail to follow through on exercise. It’s human nature to avoid doing what we should do. The apostle Paul states:
“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” Romans 7:15 NIV
In other words, I don’t exercise on the glider despite my desire for toned thigh and upper arm muscles. When I do perform the workout, my joints feel better, and I enjoy the rhythmic motions of swinging arms and legs. So why don’t I do it daily? I keep telling myself: just do it! Get up on that machine and move your body. But I don’t.
So yes, it really is a me problem.
