Its horrid appearance
Upset and shook up my life
I had no warning, protection, or shield
to hide from its poisonous bite.
It struck out of nowhere
blindsiding my comfort
as I laid in the ease of reflection
weaving its web to stick to my soul
and attack my peace with deception.
Oh Spider, who sent you and what have I done
to deserve your poisonous sting?
I would never have planned to bring you along
on life's journey to meet Jesus, my King.
You’re ugly, you stench is eroding my life
like a dead animal left to decay.
How can I stop your weaving your web
in your sneaky and bitter old way?
I didn’t know it then
but discovered it later
as I fell on my knees in despair
that the spider, so monstrous
that was stealing my joy
was no problem for Jesus to bear.
Asking Him into my heart
my greatest decision
that forever transformed my life
kept that spider contained
in its boundaries to tame
its sting from causing more strife.
My perception of the spider’s huge size
has literally changed overnight
the itsy bitsy spider, a gift to my life
no longer controls me with fright.
I learned, I grew, I changed, and I struggled
with the bite of that small spider’s sting
But I see how it’s given me hope and compassion
on the journey to meeting my King.
I've met many others in bondage to fear
Of their spiders stealing their peace
I can point them to Jesus and God's Holy Word
To direct them to their relief.
Dear Jesus, I thank you for shrinking the spiders
that you send as we sojourn towards home
you blessed me with strength to bear all that comes
as You made me one of Your own.
