And I was very weary,
While conflict with an angry friend
Had left me somewhat teary.
So eager was I as I sought
The peace within my house,
I almost missed the text he sent—
My extroverted spouse.
“I hope you will not mind, my dear,
Our dinner company.
I’m bringing six friends home tonight
To eat with you and me.”
I felt like pulling out my hair,
His, too, if truth be known.
I could not comprehend, for sure,
The thoughtlessness he’d shown.
He’d seen my schedule for the day.
He knew it would be rough.
He’d even shared with me the prayer
That I’d have strength enough.
“Could he not tell how tired I’d be?”
I fretted as I stewed
And studied my computer screen,
Where “quick meals” I reviewed.
Just then a message dinged again.
“Just teasing,” made me groan.
“We’re going out to eat tonight,
Just you and I alone.”
