The two excused themselves and huddled a short distance away in the garden. Holy Spirit jumped up and down as excited as could be. “I know how we can pull a fast one on Father. He’s so serious all the time. It’ll be great fun; easy as pie.”
Jesus had to reach out to hold Holy Spirit to keep Him in one place to continue the conversation. “You’re so child-like and mischievous. It’s no wonder Father loves you so much. What’s your plan?”
He let go for a moment and instantly regretted it. Holy Spirit zipped around, up and down, like the wind until Jesus was able to grab Him again. “You know how Father loves His creation and all the people in it; Imago Dei, and all that. But the sin of mankind weighs on Him. It makes Him sad, and that’ll never do.”
“I know.” Tears rolled down Jesus’ cheeks. “Men’s choices are killing them. They’ll come to Judgment, and Father, as a Righteous Judge will have no alternative but to cast them away from Him forever.”
“But Jesus!” Holy Spirit began jumping around so much, Jesus had a hard time even seeing Him. “Jesus, it’s worse than that; it’s rumored Father will appoint You to judge them. Think how awful that’ll be!”
With a heavy heart, Jesus agreed. “What shall we do?”
“Come closer. Let me whisper in Your ear.”
A moment later, Jesus responded, “Easy? No, but necessary.”
He came to Father. “I must travel to earth for several human years, and I need Holy Spirit to accompany Me. May I have Your blessing?”
Father reached out a tender hand to touch His Son’s head. “Represent Us well.”
The plan came to fruition. They did many wondrous things the men of earth had never before seen. Jesus lived among Father’s creation and learned its ways. He saw man’s sin, the rebellion of his heart, the disobedience of his soul; and it grieved Him. How he desired to take all of mankind and gather it close like a hen does its chicks, but many rejected His love. They hated His teachings, but He persevered. For that, they persecuted and crucified Him.
Father saw from heaven the suffering of His Son and resurrected Him from the dead. When Jesus again sat at His right hand, Father said, “You gave all You had, every good and perfect gift from above for that ungrateful world. To what purpose, My Son?”
Jesus sneaked a wink at Holy Spirit. “You’ll see, Father. I know You’ll like it.”
“You two are cooking up something, but I see I’ll be the last to know,” Father said, going along with the ruse. “Go ahead, have Your will and Your way.”
The Rapture of the Church came along, and the earth below went into Tribulation as God poured out His judgment and wrath. Those who were born again and knew Jesus escaped it all. However, during this time Father voiced as a concern what he’d planned for since the beginning. “What will happen to these raptured ones when they are judged? Will their sin not still be evident?”
With a sad expression, even as he rubbed His hands secretly in glee, Holy Spirit said, “Bring them to the Bema Seat, Father, perhaps mercy will find a way.”
The Church gathered before the throne, and Father was about to mount the Bema Seat. Jesus stepped before Him. “May I sit there and judge, Father?”
Father acquiesced. “Judgment is hard, but go ahead, Son.”
Even as Jesus sat on the nearby Bema and Father resumed his own chair, a miraculous change occurred in the sea of saved humanity before them. Behold! Not a single person any longer looked like his previous self. All those assembled looked like Jesus!
Father smiled, knowing all things. “This is wonderful, like Jesus’ reflection in a mirror. How can We judge them in their sins if We can’t tell them apart from My Son?”
Holy Spirit giggled. “Everyone is wearing Jesus’ cloak of righteousness. It transforms them completely. Now all Jesus must do is evaluate their works and not their sins.”
Father pointed at the Bema Seat. “It truly is a Seat of Mercy.”
Jesus and Holy Spirit did high fives. Soon enough the Wedding Feast began.
